About SMWE Director of Education and Sommelier Paul Asikainen
As Director of Education for Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, Paul is responsible for a wide breadth of essential sales and trade development activities. Representing the entire portfolio of Ste. Michelle’s storied brands, he is also entrusted to deliver compelling consumer engagement. Along with a Marketing degree from Creighton University, Paul is certified through the Court of Master Sommeliers and holds WSET 3 & CSW certificates. His diverse background of hospitality management, distributor coaching, and executing innovative wine experiences spans more than two decades. In addition to his intimate familiarity with the most iconic wineries of California, Washington and Oregon, Paul has also spent time exploring prominent vineyards in France, Italy, Spain, Chile, and New Zealand. A sophisticated knowledge of the wine and restaurant industries combined with his Midwestern warmth and gregarious personality, make Paul the quintessential presenter. Having spent most of his professional career in the Napa Valley, he now resides in his hometown of Kansas City with his wife and two children.
