About Our Host Restaurant, Casa del Barco

We're excited to share that beautiful Casa del Barco - Canal Walk will host Tequilabamba.   

Located along the Historic Canal Walk, Casa del Barco is Richmond’s destination for redefined Mexican cuisine.  This chef-driven restaurant emphasizes fresh, local ingredients to create an exciting, authentic dining experience. Our list of over 130 tequilas (Central Virginia's largest) is still growing and pleases the casual spirit sippers to the most seasoned aficionados.

Materials from the historic 1890s Reynolds Metals Italianate building were repurposed into tabletops as well as a ceiling feature that allows guests to sign and hang tequila bottles as they're emptied!

About Tequila Connoisseur Javier Gonzalez 

Javier is the General Manager at Casa Del Barco Canal Walk, and has been hosting private tequila tastings for guests across his 2 years with the company. With 15 years of experience in the international service industry, he thrives on crafting unforgettable experiences for guests. Originally from Mexico, Javier found his home in Virginia four years ago, and is passionate about sharing the richness of his country’s culture wherever he goes—whether through its spirits, cuisine, or stories.

Javier is a certified tequila connoisseur through the International Tequila Academy, and is working toward earning his sommelier certification. With years of studying and savoring Mexico’s national drink under his belt, Javier firmly believes in honoring tradition and taking a deep, respectful approach to the craft of tequila.
